Dear Willow,
Two years ago, my son got engaged and moved to the west coast. At the time, he and his fiancee lived in an apartment that didn’t allow pets. My son asked me to keep his dog until he could find a place where Sam could live with him. Initially, I think Sam and I just tolerated each other and made the best of the situation.
Last month, my son and his fiancee bought a condo close to her job, with nice walking trails and a dog park nearby. They suggested they want to take Sam back with them when they visit for Thanksgiving.
Here’s my problem. Sam and I have grown very close. We walk everyday with my neighbor, and her dog. I only work half-days on Friday, so Sam and I go to the dog park on Friday afternoons.
I know I agreed to watch him until my son had a place for him, but now I don’t want to let him go. My home will be so lonely without him. What should I do?
Thank you,
Miriam
