Welcome to Grief Recovery Kansas. My name is Erica Greenwood and I am a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®. I own and operate Grief Recovery Kansas and A Gentle Passing. My focus is on helping people to overcome a number of different types of grief. My work is based on the Grief Recovery Method®.
My Background
My professional background is in the technology field. After multiple buy-outs, takeovers and layoffs I decided to pursue my true passion of helping people instead of returning to another programming job. Despite the ups and downs of a major career change, my heart feels truly blessed to help people that are grieving find peace.
A Series of Losses
In the fall of 1999 and the spring of 2000 my family lost six members to various causes; 1 to a long-term illness, 2 to aging, 1 to a botched surgery and another 2 to suicide. We barely finished with one death, the funeral and managing the estate before another death occurred. In some instances the deaths overlapped. It was six loss filled months. After the first two deaths, my family kind of reached a state of numbness. Some of us are still processing at least one or two of those losses. Luckily, I found the Grief Recovery Institute. Following my training I have begun working through each loss with a feeling of relief and completion. I wish the same for you and your family.
My Mission
I specialize in supporting families after many different types of loss. You may find that people can be insensitive to the loss you are experiencing and may inadvertently say things that instead of making you feel better actually make you feel worse.
Using the activity-based Grief Recovery Method, I will provide the necessary steps and guidance to help you move forward in your life.
In addition, as an End-of-Life Doula I specialize in supporting individuals, families, friends and caretakers as they make the difficult, yet necessary, end-of-life decisions for themselves or their loved one. I assist in guiding the family through advanced planning, bedside vigil, transition, loss, mourning and grief support.
Through experience, I have found that processing grief prior to the end-of-life can help provide closure for strained relationships and allow for a gentle passing.
I look forward to working with you and offer group sessions as well as one-on-one sessions.
